February is just around the corner! And at the end of February, it is already necessary to begin preparations for sowing pepper seeds. Since Bulgarian pepper of any kind is distinguished by some “stubbornness” in terms of seedling, it is better to sow it early than to grieve over the non-emergence of seeds. It so happens that the shoots have to wait three weeks, if not more. On how correctly the sowing of seeds occurred, it depends, sometimes, not only the harvest, but also how much the seedlings will be resistant to diseases and bad weather. Red pepper shovel belongs to the early ripening varieties, fully ripens to approximately 100-110 days. It grows both in the greenhouse and in the open garden. Growing peppers through seedlings
One of the differences of sweet pepper from other vegetable crops is a long growing season. What is needed for sowing seeds
The main feature of the bell pepper is its thermophilicity. Despite this, the gardeners of our country rather successfully grow it on their plots even in the northern regions. But to succeed you definitely need strong, healthy seedlings. And for this you need quite a bit:
- good, fertilized land (if there is no stockpiled since autumn, the store is quite suitable);
- tanks for sowing;
- properly prepared seeds;
- peat pots or disposable cups;
- a great desire to get a rich harvest and some free time.
Necessary procedures before sowing
- Sprinkle pepper seeds to disinfect them and no longer have problems with peptic diseases. Seeds should be poured with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, hold it for half an hour, drain the water and dry them.
- Check for germination. It is better to hold it now, than to guess whether they will ascend or not, and if they do, how much? It is very simple to make: you need to spread the seeds on a damp napkin, put another napkin on top and put it in the heat, constantly checking that it does not dry out. After 7-10 days, the seeds will turn, and it will be clear which ones are suitable for sowing.
- Hardening of seeds. At 10-12 o'clock put a plate with the seeds in the refrigerator. This will enable future peppers to reliably survive all weather extremes.
Immediately before sowing, the soil should be decontaminated by watering it with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Now you can start sowing. To do this, make the grooves, the depth of which is no more than 1 cm and spread out the spiked pepper seeds. Red spade 2 cm apart. Carefully close the grooves with soil, stretch the film on the container and put in heat until shoots appear. When the first sprouts come out in a week, you should definitely remove the film so that they will not die, and rearrange the container with the seedlings to the lighted place, most likely it will be a window sill. It is necessary before this to make sure that the glass does not draw cold, since the temperature regime is a very important component when growing seedlings of pepper. The required temperature for good seedling development is from 20 to 25 ° C.
Attention! It should be borne in mind that if the temperature drops to 14-12 ° C, it will negatively affect the plants: not only the seedlings, but even adult peppers significantly slow down growth.
When 2-3 true leaves are formed on the plants, a pick is done. Its goal is to give sprouts a large area for development, while removing all weak and small shoots. Since the pepper does not like it when it is touched in vain, the transplant should be done very carefully so as not to damage the roots. In one cup you need to plant one seedling Red shovel. It is not necessary to deepen the sprout of pepper, it is better to plant flush with the root, this will stimulate the plant to the development of a strong root system.
To support the plant, you can feed: the first time after 13-14 days after planting, the second time - after 10-14 days after the first feeding. To do this, you can make the following composition: nitrate - ½ gram, superphosphate - 3 grams, potash fertilizers - 1 gram; dilute in 1 liter of distilled water. For the second pepper feed Red Spade the same fertilizers are used, but in double size. It is possible to make a third dressing, it is carried out just before the transfer into the ground: the composition of the fertilizers is the same as in the second dressing, but the potash fertilizers increase to 8 grams.Tip! Chemical fertilizers can be replaced by organic matter - wood ash and nettle infusion (1:10).
If the red spade varieties of pepper seedlings grow slowly, sleeping tea is used, from which the infusion is prepared: for 3 liters of boiling water - a glass of tea tea leaves, infuse for 5 days, drain and pour the peppers. You can not get too carried away feeding, inferior seedlings can simply burn. And you can completely abandon the dressing. If the seedlings of pepper are in comfortable conditions and the temperature regime is observed, then it will delight in its strength and growth.
To save pepper seedlings from diseases such as the black leg, watering and feeding the plants should be a little bit in the morning, since excessive watering provokes the appearance of the black leg and root rot. Be sure to loosen and weed the soil, making it very carefully, without disturbing the plants.
Planting pepper in the ground
So, the age of seedlings of red pepper shovel is already 2-2.5 months. It's time to land in the ground. But before that, it would not hurt to temper. This is done very simply: for 3-5 days, containers with seedlings should be on the street or in a greenhouse with open frames for several hours. But this is on condition that the temperature outside is not lower than 15 ° C and there is no wind.Important! On the day of planting pepper seedlings in the greenhouse or on the garden, it is important that the air temperature was about 18 degrees Celsius, the weather was windless and preferably cloudy (in sunny weather it is better to start planting in the afternoon).
Before planting, the soil under the seedling of red pepper shovel varieties should be well shed, so that the transplant is painless. Then carefully remove each plant from its cup, if possible with the ground, and plant it in prepared holes in the garden, the distance between which is not less than half a meter. You do not need to plant red pepper shovel too deep - the ground should be in the soil to the root of the neck.
If a red shovel pepper is planted on an open garden bed, it should be covered with foil or covering material to protect it from possible frost, setting the arc beforehand. The use of plastic bottles with a cut-off bottom or paper caps is acceptable.
