Chickens Phoenix: description and characteristics of the breed

Among the many breeds of ornamental chickens there is one completely unique breed, one of the lines of which is categorically contraindicated to fly off the perch and walk on the ground, looking for delicious worms. These are phoenix chickens - originally "invented" in China. In the Middle Kingdom, the long-tailed breed of chickens, then called Fen-Huan, originated as far back as the first millennium of our era.

Hen. Like the rooster, the color is similar to the color of the orange-maned version, but the color scheme has a slope not in the red spectrum, but in yellow.

Important! For chickens of this breed, the main thing is the presence of the main breed trait: an extremely long tail. The color of the phoenix is secondary.

Breed performance

Egg production 100 light yellow eggs per year weighing 45 grams. Phoenix meat has good taste characteristics, if someone raises his hand to slaughter a chicken.

Dwarf phoenixes

On the basis of Japanese and Bentama chickens, the same Germans bred the "dwarf phoenix" breed.

Description, appearance and colors of the dwarf phoenix are no different from its large counterparts. The difference is only in weight, productivity and in proportion to the shortened length of the tail.

The weight of the dwarf rooster is 0.8 kg, the chickens - 0.7 kg. Tail length up to 1.5 m against a 3-meter long at a large phoenix. Egg production is about 60 yellowish eggs with a weight of 25 g.

Feeding

Feeding the phoenix is no different from feeding any other chicken breed. Phoenix gladly consume soft food, which is better to give in the morning, and grain - at night. Phoenix chickens are usually fed twice a day. If chickens phoenixes are fattened for meat, then you can feed more often.

Breeding

It is believed that phoenix chickens are worthless mothers, so eggs should be picked and hatch in an incubator. Perhaps this is true. Perhaps the fact is that almost all the phoenixes were bred in the incubator, without communicating with the hen. Oddly enough, but the best hens are those chickens that were themselves bred under the hen. Chickens bred in an incubator are often devoid of such an instinct. With phoenixes, in this case, a vicious circle is obtained: the purchase of an incubator egg - an incubator - a chicken - a layer - an incubator.

You can open it by conducting an experiment and moving a phoenix under another layer. But usually now prefer to use incubators.

Features of content and walking

Because of the long tails of the phoenixes, it is necessary to make special perches at a height of 2-3 m. There is no need to worry about walking. Phoenixes are very cold-resistant and walk with pleasure in the snow, reluctantly entering the room. Nevertheless, to prevent freezing of chickens, the place of overnight stay must be warmed.

In general, with the exception of the fuss with the long tail, the phoenix is an unpretentious and trouble-free chicken that can be started even by beginners.
